\nMusic Director and Chief Conductor of the Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic Orchestra<\/p>\n

Chief Conductor of the Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic Orchestra, and Music Director of the Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic (since 2021-2022 season), \u0141ukasz Borowicz was born in 1977 in Warsaw. Studied with Bogus\u0142aw Madey at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw where he received doctorate in conducting under Antoni Wit. Between 2007 and 2015, he was Artistic Director of the Polish Radio Orchestra, and First Guest Conductor of the Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic Orchestra (2006-2021).<\/p>\n

In 2008, he was awarded the\u00a0Passport<\/i>\u00a0prize of \u201cPolityka\u201d magazine, in 2011 \u2013 the\u00a0Coryphaeus of Polish Music<\/i>prize,<\/i>\u00a0in 2013 \u2013 the\u00a0Cyprian Kamil Norwid Prize,\u00a0<\/i>and in 2014\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/i>the\u00a0Tansman 2014\u00a0<\/i>prize for outstanding musical personality.<\/p>\n

Following his operatic debut with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\u2019s\u00a0Don Giovanni\u00a0<\/i>at the National Opera in Warsaw, he has conducted over 180 opera and ballet performances at the venue, incl. premieres of\u00a0Orfeo ed Euridice<\/i>\u00a0by Christoph Willibald Gluck,\u00a0The Rite of Spring\u00a0<\/i>by Igor Stravinsky,\u00a0Midsummer\u2019s Night Dream\u00a0<\/i>by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Gy\u00f6rgy Ligeti,\u00a0Romeo and Juliet\u00a0<\/i>by Sergey Prokofiev, and\u00a0Balety Polskie<\/i>. Has also conducted premiere performances of\u00a0Don Giovanni<\/i>\u00a0by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,\u00a0Eug\u00e8ne Onegin\u00a0<\/i>by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Stanis\u0142aw Moniuszko\u2019s\u00a0Halka\u00a0<\/i>and Karol Szymanowski\u2019s\u00a0Kr\u00f3l R<\/i>oger at the Cracow Opera,\u00a0Die Zauberfl\u00f6te<\/i>\u00a0by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,\u00a0Rusalka\u00a0<\/i>by Antonin Dvo\u0159\u00e1k,\u00a0Bluebeard\u2019s Castle\u00a0<\/i>by Bela Bart\u00f3k and\u00a0Dido and Aeneas\u00a0<\/i>by Henry Purcell at the Wielki Theatre in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, as well as Karol Szymanowski\u2019s\u00a0King Roger\u00a0<\/i>at ABAO Opera in Bilbao, and\u00a0Don Giovanni\u00a0<\/i>by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the Polish Royal Opera. At subsequent editions of Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, he has presented and recorded thirteen forgotten operas. \u0141ukasz Borowicz has also conducted concerts at festivals in Pesaro (recital by Ewa Podle\u015b), and Schleswig-Holstein (Halka<\/i>\u00a0by Stanis\u0142aw Moniuszko with the NDR Orchestra). In October 2018, he conducted the performance of\u00a0Les Huguenots<\/i>\u00a0by Giacomo Meyerbeer at the Op\u00e9ra Bastille to become the first Polish conductor in the history of the Paris Opera. In December 2019, he conducted the premiere performance of\u00a0Halka\u00a0<\/i>by\u00a0<\/i>Stanis\u0142aw Moniuszko at the Theater and der Wien. Directed by Mariusz Treli\u0144ski, it featured the tenor Piotr Becza\u0142a (Polish premiere of the production was held at the National Opera in Warsaw in February 2020).<\/p>\n

\u0141ukasz Borowicz has conducted numerous orchestras, incl. the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, D\u00fcsseldorfer Symphoniker, Hamburger Symphoniker, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, as well as the majority of Polish symphony ensembles.<\/p>\n

Between 2015 and 2020, his collaborations incl. the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, RIAS Kammerchor and Akademie f\u00fcr Alte Musik, Deutche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Bamberger Symphoniker, G\u00fcrzenich K\u00f6ln, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, W\u00fcrttembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, NWD Philharmonie Herford, Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, Orchestre National des Pays de Loire, Orchestre National de Lille, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Hungary, Czech Radio Orchestra, Orchestra Classica Santa Cecilia Madrid, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/p>\n

\u0141ukasz Borowicz\u2019s discography comprises 110 albums. He has recorded the complete violin concertos by Gra\u017cyna Bacewicz for Chandos (with soloist Joanna Kurkowicz). The complete symphonic works by Andrzej Panufnik recorded with the Polish Radio Orchestra and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin for\u00a0cpo<\/i>\u00a0have been recognised with the\u00a0Special Achievement Award ICMA 2015.<\/i>\u00a0His collaboration with Piotr Becza\u0142a on the Deutsche Grammophon recording of\u00a0Heart\u2019s Delight\u00a0<\/i>(with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) has certified Gold in Poland.<\/p>\n

With the Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic Orchestra \u0141ukasz Borowicz has made recordings of works by Karol Kurpi\u0144ski (for Polskie Radio), Franz Xaver Scharwenka (for Naxos), opera recitals by Samuel Ramey (for Polskie Radio) and Francesco Meli (for Polskie Nagrania), as well as concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi\u2019s\u00a0Giovanna d\u2019Arco<\/i>\u00a0(for Polskie Nagrania). In 2015, the CD\u00a0Stars of World Opera Stages: Ewa Podle\u015b. Live with the Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic Orchestra\u00a0<\/i>(recorded by DUX at a concert in Pozna\u0144) was awarded the\u00a0L\u2019Orph\u00e9e d\u2019Or<\/i>\u00a0by the French Acad\u00e9mie du Disque Lyrique. In 2015, he recorded Jacek Sykulski\u2019s\u00a0Oratorium 966.pl<\/i>\u00a0with the Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2016, the world\u2019s first CD of\u00a0Quo vadis<\/i>\u00a0by Feliks Nowowiejski. Published in 2017 by the German record company\u00a0cpo<\/i>, in 2018 it won the International Classical Music Award (ICMA).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
